MoonPay Breaks New Ground with New York Trust Charter Win

  • New York just gave MoonPay, a company that helps people buy and sell cryptocurrencies, a special license called a Trust Charter.
  • With this license, MoonPay can keep digital money safe and help businesses make big trades.
  • It’s a big deal because New York has strict rules. Now MoonPay can work more with big crypto companies.
  • Since June 2025, the company has had another license called BitLicense, making it one of the few that has both.

MoonPay is getting better at handling digital money. The company’s New York Trust Charter was approved by the state’s Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) on November 25, 2025. This move lets MoonPay offer more services to big businesses that work with cryptocurrencies.

A Trust Charter is a special permission that lets businesses handle money safely as long as they follow strict rules. This means that MoonPay can now offer custody services, which are like a safe for cryptocurrencies, and over-the-counter (OTC) trading. OTC is when big buyers and sellers trade directly with each other instead of using public exchanges.

This charter is based on MoonPay’s previous victory. They got the BitLicense in June 2025, which let them do business in all 50 states, even New York. Now that it has both licenses, MoonPay is one of a small number of crypto companies that can do advanced things while being watched.

MoonPay’s leaders are excited about this. “Receiving our New York Trust Charter reflects our commitment to meeting the highest standards of compliance, security, and governance,” said Ivan Soto-Wright, MoonPay’s CEO. He added that this will help build better financial tools for the crypto world.
