US Treasury Secretary’s Bitcoin Bar Drop-In Sparks Crypto Excitement
- Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, shocked everyone by coming to the opening of Pubkey DC, a bar in Washington for Bitcoin fans.
- Bitcoin’s price is around $85,500 right now, down from its recent high of $125,000.
Scott Bessent has been a supporter of crypto for a while. When he was nominated for Treasury Secretary in 2024, he pushed for the US to be the leader in digital assets. He backed the GENIUS Act, which is a bill to encourage new ideas in the crypto space.
He even talked about making a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, which would be a government stash of Bitcoin to help the economy. He talked about looking into ways to buy Bitcoin without paying extra fees in August 2025. He thinks of Bitcoin as a “store of value,” which is similar to how people think of gold.
This visit is typical for him. It’s casual but strong, showing that he’s interested in the crypto world beyond policy papers.
